Santa Clara, Calif. — Catalyst Semiconductor, Inc., a provider of analog, mixed-signal devices and non-volatile memory, has expanded its LED driver lineup to introduce new products for the large-screen LED panel market. The new CAT4016 is a 16-channel, constant current source LED driver designed for billboards, advertising subtitles, meters or other large-size, general-purpose indoor and outdoor LED displays.
The CAT4016's LED channel maintains a steady current state at output voltages as low as 0.4V (when the LED current is 2mA to 100mA), which allows for higher power efficiency in application designs. The LED current can be set by an external resistor. A high-speed, four-wire serial interface with up to 25MHz frequency controls each LED channel through a shift register and latch architecture. A separate serial data output pin allows multiple devices to be used in series via the same serial interface. The CAT4016 also features thermal protection that allows the device to turn off the LED output when the die temperature exceeds the allowable limit.
As a replacement for similar products from Macroblock, Toshiba or other vendors, the CAT4016 offers a wider variety of packages to choose from, including 24-pin SOIC, TSSOP, QSOP and TQFN packages measuring only 4 x 4mm.
